The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, received this Tuesday at the National Palace the kings of Sweden, the head of state Carlos XVI Gustavo and Queen Silviawho begin a three-day visit to the country marked by culture and business.
“We are going to exchange opinions, they want to talk with us, they care a lot about what is being done in cultural matters, they are going to go to the Mayan region, yes they are going to be on the Mayan Train and we are going to receive them,” the president had declared. in his morning conference.
The monarchs are accompanied by the Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Johan Forssell, as well as 25 companies in a business delegation, so the Mexican ruler trusted that there will be investment announcements.
The tour begins this Tuesday with the ceremony of a floral offering at the Obelisk to the Children Heroes in Mexico City, where later the Mexican Foreign Minister, Alicia Bárcena, will accompany them to the meeting and lunch they will have at the National Palace with the president and his wife, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller.
“They are intelligent, educated, generous monarchs, and they are our visitors and we are going to serve them.”commented López Obrador.
“It is above all to maintain friendly relations, we really liked that (the king) has decided to come to Mexico, as head of state and they are welcome,” he added.
After the morning conference, the kings were received by the president and his wife, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, in the patio of the National Palace, located in the capital's Zócalo and where the president and his wife reside.
The kings arrived in a vehicle at the Palace, where they were awaited and where they exchanged a few words before listening to the anthems of several countries.
They then left to continue with the activities scheduled for their visit.
This is the third state visit to Mexico by a Swedish monarch after those made in 1982 and 2002. recalled the Swedish Embassy in Mexico.
Its objective is to “consolidate good relations between Sweden and Mexico and strengthen economic and political ties with a focus on innovation, partnership, trade and investment,” according to a statement from the Government of Sweden.
On the second day of the visit, the king will inaugurate the Mexico-Sweden business forum that will address topics such as sustainable transportation, mining, telecommunications and health.
The kings will also visit the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)they will eat with businessmen and inaugurate the new offices of the Ericsson company in Mexico City, where they will also meet with Swedish residents in the country and attend a dance show at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
Finally, they will travel to Mérida, capital of Yucatán, a state in the southeast of the country, where they will tour the archaeological zone of Uxmal, use the Mayan Train and meet with indigenous leaders of the Yaqui and Mayan peoples.
