The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, appointed this Friday to Raquel Buenrostro as new secretary of economyafter the resignation on Thursday of Tatiana Clouthier as head of the unit.
“I made the decision to appoint Raquel Buenrostro secretary of the economy, who now works as director of the SAT (Tax Administration Service),” the president reported in his morning press conference from the National Palace.
López Obrador stressed that Buenrostro has had “a very good job” at the head of the SAT since tax collection has not decreased.
“I believe that what counts are the facts and she is an exemplary public servant and she is going to be the next secretary of the economy,” he said.
He noted that the new head of the agency, She is a teacher in economics and has a degree in mathematics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. (UNAM).
Buenrostro has held various public positions, in addition to the fact that UNAM awarded him the Gabino Barreda medal with the thesis “About the Miller-Teply theorem.” Subsequently, he obtained a master’s degree in Economics from El Colegio de México (Colmex) with the work “Behavior of the exchange rate within a band: analysis of the effects due to the intramarginal intervention of the Central Bank”.
Within the academy, he has taught various mathematics and economics courses at UNAM and El Colegio de México.
ThursdayClouthier announced in the morning conference his resignation from the Ministry of Economy, without delving into the reasons for his resignationto which López Obrador said that his resignation was due to a personal matter.
“Tatiana is a woman with principles, upright and with criteria. If there were other reasons, she would have stated it (…) She already makes the reasons known. We love her very much, we respect her very much. Our adversaries are not going to settle for anything,” she stated.
