Currently, there are many brands of processors in the world, which are segmented into computers and mobile devices. For example, on the computer side, we have as main exponents Intel and AMD, while on the side of mobile devices are Qualcomm, Mediatek, Samsung, Huawei and Apple, however, of the latter only Qualcomm has dared to launch processors for computers, while Intel tried its luck with its processors for smartphones year ago without having the expected success.
But things seem like they could change soon, as information has been leaked revealing that AMD would be ready to launch its first processor for Android smartphones, something that should undoubtedly concern Qualcomm.
And it is that AMD has been growing significantly in recent years, its Ryzen processors are at the level of Intel’s chips, but for many AMD it has a better cost/benefit ratio, and in some cases, even its chips have better performance than that of its competitors.
A higher processor than the best Snapdragon?
According to rumors, the AMD processor would be from the Ryzen family, it would be made in 5 nanometers, it would come with 2 Cortex X1 cores and two Cortex A78, and it would be the first mobile processor with ray tracing.
Also, the leaked specification sheet mentions that Mediatek will be in charge of the 5G modem for this processor because at the moment AMD does not have this technology on the market.
The GPU would be a Radeon RDNA 2 Mobile, which is presumed to be 45% faster than the Adreno 650 carried by the best Qualcomm processors.
At a performance level, the new mobile Ryzen looks very interesting because it would not only have a more advanced architecture than the Snapdragon 865, but it is presumed as a faster processor and with greater advantages to exploit games on the smartphone.
Other technologies that Ryzen Mobile would support would be WiFi 6, HDR10 +, UFS 3.1 memory and LPDDR5 RAM.
A change in the industry
Although MediaTek, Samsung and Huawei do an excellent job with their processors for Android devices, the reality is that neither is at the level of the Snapdragon 865, in fact, Huawei and Samsung reserve their best processors for their devices, so most of the Manufacturers can only bet on Mediatek or Qualcomm.
In the case of Qualcomm, there has been controversy about the price of its processors, as some manufacturers mention that they are quite high due to the 5G modem, and that is that the North American firm sells the Snapdragon 865 along with the 5G modem in the same package, from hence the price to buy this processor is high, and that is why manufacturers, in the end, must increase the price of their devices.
With the arrival of a chip equal to or more powerful than the Snapdragon 865, which will come with a cheaper 5G modem, and which is also designed by a renowned firm such as AMD, which could cause Qualcomm to lower prices and improve its technology. , something that would undoubtedly benefit all users who bet on Android.
