If a few years ago buying RAM memory meant making an abusive outlay, in recent months the prize goes to the graphics cards. The general situation with GPUs, both from Nvidia and AMD, has only gotten worse and it does not seem that there is going to be an improvement in the short term if we pay attention to the increases in prices that this October leaves us.
The case of AMD is extremely worrying because the price of its graphics cards has increased by 18%, which translates into an additional cost of 101% compared to the recommended retail price of these GPUs. So the overall situation is discouraging and the market is putting AMD back into a dangerous position.
The Californian company is allocating its resources to the development of EPYC CPUs, AMD’s current platform for servers, for which the manufacture of graphics cards has gone to the background. And, despite the fact that currently the stock of graphics cards is still more than double what it was at the beginning of the year, the extra cost in their production and the new generation consoles do not seem to help regulate their price
On the other hand, the situation with Nvidia is not much better at a dangerous time with the imminent launch of the first Alder Lake processors. Its price has increased in the last two weeks of last October a 14%, which represents an extra cost of 86% of the recommended price.
At the moment, the only thing we can make clear is that the best thing is wait if you want to improve your system. The situation is not the best and it seems that at the beginning of 2022 the shortage in the manufacture of the components and the extra cost of these processes is going to continue, unfortunately.
