Although it is not a novelty, medical series enjoy wide popularity throughout the world. Titles are constantly released that reflect the lifestyle of health professionals. In some cases they are completely based on reality and in others they contain more fiction than reality. But of the current works one of the most famous is “The Good Doctor”. To promote your most recent season Amazon Prime Video hired a doctor as part of the promotional campaign.
What is it about?
First of all it is necessary to talk about this series. It stars actor Freddie Highmore, who plays Shawn Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and wise man syndrome. Everything takes place in the fictional St. Bonaventure hospital in San José, California. The objective is to show what the specialist’s relationship with his colleagues and patients is like. In addition, it also offers a portrait of what life is like inside hospitals.
The work premiered in 2017 and was immediately a success in his native United States. In fact, the first season became one of the most watched shows of that year. Although something very important that not many know is that the story is a remake of a South Korean series of the same name released in 2013.
Another field of work for doctors
Now, this 2022 the fourth season of this hospital drama was released. As part of the marketing campaign, Amazon hired a doctor. The objective was to make a video reaction of some of the most important moments in the history of the series.
Who is the doctor Amazon hired?
Its about Dr. Carlos Vazquez Vela, who is an otolaryngologist and has a subspecialty as Head and Neck Surgeon. He currently works at the Angeles Pedregal Hospital in Mexico City and is quite active on social media.
For its part, the video of the specialist was published on the official YouTube channel of Amazon Prime Video Latin America which accumulates almost a million followers.
For five minutes the specialist comments on some aspects that appeared in various episodes of the series. He also explains what some diseases consist of and the importance of aspects such as empathy.
In that sense, it is not a novelty because this type of videos have already been made before by other doctors. The difference is that now Amazon hired a doctor and it is one of the first times that a large company is responsible for producing this type of content.
Another example of medical video reactions
In fact, in In 2019, real doctors and youtubers Doctor Vic, Dra. Jackie and Mr. Doctor made a video. In it they dedicated themselves to seeing the first chapter of the Televisa series “Doctors, lifeline” focused on the work of doctors.
Regarding the Mexican work, it received mostly negative criticism for distorting the real work of doctors. Only in one of the scenes can you see a “doctor” on the street who in 11 seconds and only by seeing a person’s tongue identifies the patient’s illness. Ironically, the royal doctors said that not even in the IMSS do they make such quick diagnoses.
Similarly, another criticism is regarding the way in which a “doctor” transports his gown. On the screen it is observed that he leaves her hanging on his motorcycle to go to the hospital. The truth is that this should never be done due to the risk of contamination to which the garment is exposed. If that were done in the real world, internees within health centers would be put at risk.
