Amazon has expelled more than 600 Chinese brands from its store globally for practices linked to fake reviews. Although it was already an open secret how some sellers worked, it was in May when Safety Detectives unveiled a database with 200,000 users involved in a fake review scheme, with 13 million records as messages to users.
From that moment on, well-known brands such as Aukey began to disappear from the online store, but they have not stopped there, because Behind many brands there could be several stores that engaged in practices contrary to Amazon’s operating standards.
A great operation that leaves us without many brands that used to be recommended
It has been the Chinese media SCMP that has published the Amazon ban on these more than 600 stores. As the company has confirmed to them and The Verge, They have eliminated 3,000 stores or vendors that sold the 600 brands. It is, therefore, one of the largest operations that have been carried out against false reviews.
Among the companies involved there was no large traditional brand, but there were several that were in fashion, such as the aforementioned Aukey, which was accompanied by other large brands in accessories of all kinds such as Mpow, RavPower or Choetech. In technological word of mouth, it was very common to recommend them when smartphone chargers, cablets, inexpensive headphones, etc. were needed.
The actions of Amazon, as the company has explained, are not only in the expulsion of these stores and sellers:
“Customers rely on the accuracy and authenticity of product reviews to make informed purchasing decisions, and we have clear policies for both reviewers and vendor partners that prohibit abuse of features in our community. We suspend, prohibit, and take action. against those who violate these policies, wherever they are in the world. “
In order for customers to post fake reviews, these stores have even had networks of people who bought their items, so that Amazon would display its classic “Verified Purchase” notice. What the stores did was offer discounts, pay after receiving the purchase or even give the goods away.
