The “welfare meetings” have nothing to do with the AMLO government, but with an Amazon strategy to promote the productivity of its employees.
One of the needs of workers, in any field, is rest; even more than a necessity -which it is-, it is an elementary right, especially in these times.
We must always remember that we are currently living in a moment in history in which stress, worry, anger, sadness, among other emotions, are part of our daily lives.
The arrival of Covid-19 and its still endless pandemic brought with it an emotional crisis that, without a doubt, will be a long process trying to resolve it.
According to the poll ‘State of the Global Workplace 2021 Report’ conducted by Gallup in 116 countries and cited by Statista, worry, stress, anger and sadness among employees around the world have been on the rise over the last decade, reaching record levels in 2020.
As revealed by Gallup, workers in the United States and Canada reported the highest levels of daily stress globally (57 percent), while in Western Europe, stress dropped to 39 percent, down from 46 in 2019. percent.
In that sense, regaining confidence in the post-pandemic era will probably be one of the longest processes in trying to solve it; however, some companies have begun to design peculiar strategies with their employees.
An example of this can be seen in the “welfare meetings” that, far from being something related to the government headed by Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), is an initiative that aims to promote productivity among Amazon workers.
The idea comes after Jeff Bezos warned shareholders that the company needs to “do a better job with employees,” which is why, once launched, workers have been summoned to various mandatory group meetings designed specifically to improve their performance. welfare.
In the middle of their shifts, Amazon employees stand in front of a TV or computer to watch a short video.
These “wellness meetings” are part of Amazon’s WorkingWell program, which began last year and has the development of “physical and mental activities, well-being exercises and support for healthy eating”, which have the task of help employees to “recharge and revitalize”.
One of the activities of this program is carried out in the AmaZen room, which is basically a room where workers can go to meditate and practice concentrated activities on their computers.
On the other hand, some meetings have the purpose of promoting healthy eating in order to reduce the consumption of sweets and carbohydrates, and, instead, eat more vegetables. Through its website, Amazon has mentioned that the program is helping to fulfill its “vision of being the safest workplace on Earth.”
