It’s only 22 years old, Amanda Gorman was chosen to recite the opening poem at the inauguration ceremony of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as President and Vice President of the United States. He thus made history by becoming the youngest poet to do it and, as a consequence, in the target of a multitude of firms willing to work with her and with whom she could have earned up to 17 million dollars. However, only one has gotten Gorman’s “yes”: Estée Lauder, although it is not known by how much.
What the cosmetic firm has proposed to the poet is to be her first “Global Changemaker”. A position as image, spokesperson and ambassador that comes to mean something like “executor of global changes” and that puts at her disposal a fund of three million dollars to lead a scholarship program called Writing Change (writing change).
The objective of this new philanthropic project of the American brand, as explained by Gorman networks itself, is “promote literacy and women’s writing as a form of social change”. I still do not know who will be the first beneficiaries but they are expected to arrive at the end of this year.
The contract has an initial duration of three years although it leaves the door open for renewals if all goes well. This announcement comes a week before her debut at the Met Gala, where she will join the chairs of honor, as part of the generational relay squad, actor Timothée Chalamet, singer Billie Eilish and tennis player Naomi Osaka.
The hill that we ascend (The Hill We Climb) is the title of the poem with which she managed to monopolize all the flashes during the inauguration, dressed in a spectacular yellow coat and a red Prada diadem and managing to be, at the same time, sober and striking. With him he has been number 1 in sales in his country and has been chosen by the magazine Time on your list of the 100 people who will be most influential in the future.
The Hill We Ascend: An Inaugural Poem (Poetry)
It was the first lady herself who wanted to include the African American in the investiture ceremony after seeing a video of Amanda reciting at the Library of Congress at age 19. Something he started doing to overcome his public speaking problems. Although her dream was to work at the United Nations, from a very young age she fell in love with poetry and at the age of 19 she was chosen as the best national poet. In addition to studying at Harvard, the poet has also trained in the Complutense of Madrid, where he studied a master’s degree in writing.
Before Jill Biden, Oprah Winfrey and the Italian firm Prada had already noticed her, who invited her to several parades in Milan after being dazzled by the strength she was transmitting on her social networks. In addition to writing, Gorman is involved in humanitarian causes with an organization she founded, One Pen One Page, which encourages young Americans to write and become leaders.
In November, the Lumen publishing house will publish its next book in Spanish, aimed at children: The song of change. It is an illustrated hymn by Loren Long of a passionate call to action in defense of equality and change.
