The entrance on stage renault arkana generated a lot of interest. Renault decided to increase its commitment to SUVs by introducing its first SUV Coupe. A model that landed in dealerships stomping. In a short space of time it has far surpassed the Kadjar and the Mégane. At the moment it is close to the volume of registrations of the Clio, one of the pillars on which the Renault range is based.
The new Arkana bets on electrification. What’s more, it is only available with light hybrid (MHEV) or full hybrid (HEV) mechanics. In addition to design, it also boasts technological equipment, especially in terms of security and connectivity. It measures 4.56 meters long and its trunk has a cargo volume of 513 liters. A figure that, logically, can be increased if the rear seats are folded down.
Luxury car manufacturers have long been betting on SUV Coupés. Moreover, from a premium market point of view, a model like the Audi Q3 Sportback is positioned as a “rival”. However, Are there generalist alternatives to Arkana? Well, the truth is yes. It is possible to find coupe design SUVs under brands accessible to the mass public and we have compiled them in this article. Let’s go into detail.
DFSK F5, the first general SUV Coupé sold in Spain
The DFSK brand has been able to gain a foothold in the competitive Spanish passenger car market. Behind these acronyms, which may be unknown to much of the public, are authentic giants of the Chinese automotive industry. DFSK’s passenger car range is made up exclusively of SUV-type vehicles. And among them is the DFSK F5, the first general SUV Coupé sold in Spain.
The F5, also called Fengon 5, landed at Spanish dealerships in the convulsive year 2020. That is, before the Renault model did the same. DFSK opted for this bodywork on the premise of offering an affordable alternative to the SUV Coupés that were available at the time. All of them from luxury brands such as BMW or Mercedes. Today the DFSK model must face, among others, the Arkana.
The length of the F5 reaches 4.68 meters and, therefore, deals in the D segment. In the DFSK range it is positioned as a more dynamic and sporty alternative to the DFSK 580. Under its hood is a Mitsubishi origin gasoline engine with 1.5 liters and four cylinders. It is exclusively associated with a front-wheel drive system and a CVT-type automatic gearbox. The brand also offers a bifuel version of said engine with adaptation to LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). A version that, being able to run on gas, is worthy of the ECO environmental label of the DGT (General Directorate of Traffic) with all the mobility advantages that this entails. The price of the DFSK F5 starts from approximately €32,150.
Video test of the Volkswagen Taigo, the first Volkswagen SUV Coupé sold in Europe and manufactured in Spain
Volkswagen Taigo, wearing the “Made in Spain” seal
Last but not least, we have the newest member of the Volkswagen SUV family. The German manufacturer has also opted for this formula with the aim of enriching its range of SUVs in the Old Continent. The new Volkswagen Taigo is the first SUV Coupé sold by Volkswagen in Europe. A model that also bears the “Made in Spain” seal. It is made in Spain. More specifically in the facilities that the Volkswagen Group has in Pamplona, Navarra.
The fact that the serial production of the Taigo takes place in Spanish territory is no coincidence. The German company opted for this option due to the enormous relationship it has at a technical level with the Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen T-Cross. The three models share a platform, mechanics and numerous components. Moreover, in the Volkswagen range itself we can say that the Taigo is the coupé alternative to the T-Cross.
Measure 4.26 meters long
and therefore deals in segment B. His trunk cubic a cargo volume of 440 liters. The mechanical offer of the Taigo is made up exclusively of petrol engines and front wheel drive. It is, perhaps, one of the weak points of the German model. The reason? It does not have any version that carries the ECO label. And for a growing number of drivers, wearing this label is already a determining factor when buying a new car. The only option in this regard would be to resort to a retrospective LPG installation once the vehicle is already registered with all that this entails. The price of the Taigo starts from around €25,500.
