Migrant children and adolescents face situations that no person should go through in their lives. Not only are they forced to leave their homes, schools and families for reasons such as violence, the consequences of climate change or poverty, but later on their migration journey they are often victims of human trafficking, sexual abuse, hunger and dehydration, xenophobia, among many other problems.
In addition to this, the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of adequate medical care have intensified these risk conditions, particularly affecting the physical and mental health of the migrant population.
Against this background, and in alliance with the Embassy of Japan in Mexico, Save the Children will carry out the construction and equipment of a medical office in the city of Tijuana, to provide health care to the migrant community settled in the Little Haiti and Embajadores de Jesús shelters, spaces that have received an average of 1,100 people in a situation of mobility in the last three years.
The clinic will provide free medical service to migrants from Central America and the Caribbean who remain in this shelter and will provide direct medical care to at least 4,320 people, including children and adolescents.
These types of alliances are what allow us to strengthen our actions, in this case the Program for Attention to Migrant Children, which from 2019 -when it began its activities- until the end of 2021 has managed to serve more than 95,000 children and adolescents. migrants.
It is very important that all of us -organizations, governments and society in general- unite our efforts to guarantee the protection of migrant children in Mexico and access to their most fundamental rights.
