The Peruvian National Team will play against Chile and Argentina (October 12 and 17, respectively), for the South American Qualifiers heading to the World Cup in Canada, the United States and Mexico 2026. Therefore, in the last few hours, the red and white – through their social networks – announced the list of those summoned for the challenges in Santiago and Lima. And one of the names that did not appear on the offensive level was that of Alex Valera. In the midst of all this context, the Universitario de Deportes forward spoke about Juan Reynoso’s decision and, of course, the great moments of the creams in the Clausura Tournament of Liga 1 Betsson.
“I was not surprised by my absence, the opportunities in the National Team are there. Professor Reynoso has always given me the opportunity. He has trusted me”said the forward of the merengue team in ATV Sportsafter the list of 31 summoned players for the ‘La Bicolor’ duels was made public.
Regarding the topic of the next matches and the double date that will be played in November (against Venezuela and Bolivia), the ‘9’ mentioned that everything is defined by how he feels: “We will have to wait for the next calls and it also depends on how good the moment is, as the teacher likes that”.
Present with Sports University
There are two games left to finish the Clausura Tournament and Universitario de Deportes is the current leader (35 points), tied with Melgar who has one more game and rests on date 18. For this reason, there is a lot of confidence in those led by Jorge Fossati in stay with the contest and thus play the final against Alianza Lima (winner of the Apertura Tournament).
“The only thing we want is to win the Clausura. We depend on ourselves and we have to seek to win. I hope that Professor Jorge Fossati will give me minutes. I have spoken with him and if he took care of me for Cusco it is because I am going to be one of the pieces that is going to start there.”declared Valera.
Likewise, regarding his football present and the absence of goals (he has not scored since August 27 against Atlético Grau), he said: “Of course I feel a little anxious because I live off goals, but the only thing I want is for the team to do well, to win and contribute, be it with goals, scoring or assisting”.
When does Universitario de Deportes play again?
The next match of Sports University will be against Cusco FC and is scheduled to be played on matchday 18 of the 2023 Clausura Tournament: it will be the Saturday the 21st at 8 pm. at the Garcilaso de la Vega stadium. Those led by Jorge Fossati seek victory to reach the final day as leaders.
