The Catalan Álex Rins has achieved his first victory of the season in a great duel in which he has beaten Marc Márquez and Pecco Bagnaia. The Italian is the new leader of MotoGP after the fall of Fabio Quartararo and can be champion in Malaysia.
Izan Guevara had won in Moto3, achieving the title of the small class. Alonso López from Madrid had also conquered Phillip Island in Moto2. And since there are not two without three, Álex Rins has joined the Spanish party at the Australian GP by winning a vibrant MotoGP race in which Marc Márquez was second and Pecco Bagnaia third. The World Cup has undergone a 180 degree turn.
Everyone on the podium had a reason to smile today at Phillip Island. In one of the last races with Suzuki, Álex Rins has achieved his fourth victory in MotoGP, becoming the seventh different driver to win a race this year. For his part, Marc Marquez is back and his second place allows him to reach 100 podiums in the premier class, while Pecco Bagnaia is the leader of MotoGP with his third place and can be champion in Malaysia.
Victory for Rins, podium 100 in MotoGP for Márquez and leadership for Bagnaia. Ducati is team champion and Bezzecchi the best ‘rookie’ of the year
The chaotic race began and with the foot changed for Fabio Quartararo. The Yamaha M1 made him a stranger and he fell to the bottom of the peloton. At the head the fight was enormous, while behind the MotoGP leader succumbed to the pressure. Quartararo went to the ground at turn 2 and that drew a very different scenario. Pecco Bagnaia no longer felt the need to force, but that didn’t make him lift his foot.
The weight of the race was carried by Bagnaia in a group in which the battles have been constant. Álex Rins, Marc Márquez, Jorge Martín or Marco Bezzecchi have starred in great maneuvers in an overtaking dance in which different drivers have participated and which has resulted in a race finish with a group of seven drivers in which, unfortunately, Aleix Espargaró was unable to be due to rhythm or Jack Miller after being shot by Álex Márquez.

Victory of Rins
Álex Rins went on the attack in the last two laps to achieve victoryfourth in MotoGP and first for Suzuki in his farewell season. Marc Márquez followed in his footsteps and although he was trying to beat #42, he had to settle for second position. With everything, the Repsol Honda rider has reached his 100th podium in MotoGP after beating Pecco Bagnaia, third and new leader of the category.
Pecco’s result that also allows Ducati to be team champion. It was not the last good news for the brand, since Marco Bezzecchi with his fourth place became ‘rookie of the year’. In addition, Enea Bastianini finished in fifth place, with Luca Marini in sixth place. Jorge Martín and Johann Zarco completed the great weekend of the brand by being seventh and eighth. Defeated, Aleix Espargaró crossed the finish line in ninth place.
Return to the World Cup
With the results from Australia, Pecco Bagnaia is the new leader with 233 points and has an income of 14 units compared to the Frenchman Fabio Quartararo. After shaving nearly 90 points off the Yamaha rider since the Sachsenring, the #63 will have his first match point at Sepang. For his part, Aleix Espargaró is 27 points behind the new leader and his title options are greatly reduced.
Trailing by 42 points over Pecco Bagnaia with two races remaining, Enea Bastianini is still in the race for the titlebut the truth is that it would take almost a miracle to come out as champion. An option that Jack Miller no longer has after his fall today, since he has fallen 54 points behind his teammate. A circumstance that adds a new squire for Pecco in the two remaining races.
