Wallets linked to bankrupt Alameda Research became active again on February 7, transferring millions of FTX Tokens (FTT). The activity of Alameda wallets after FTX’s bankruptcy filing has been a major concern for the cryptocurrency community, with many questioning the merits of law enforcement agencies and how these wallets are being accessed.
Alameda’s wallet address ‘brokenfish.eth’ transferred nearly $2 million worth of FTT tokens from the BentoBox smart contract on SushiSwap. The smart contract in question serves as the central vault for the entire Sushi ecosystem. Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried has a history with SushiSwap dating back to 2020, when he took over the protocol from former lead developer Chef Nomi.
The “Alameda Research 4” wallet bought more than 1 million FTT (approximately $2.3 million) in the range of $1.86 to $1.87. The wallet also opened a lending position on Abracadabra, currently mortgaging 73,000 FTT and $31,000.
Many linked the movement of funds to ongoing bankruptcy proceedings. and they believed that John Ray III, the court-appointed CEO of FTX, sanctioned the fund movements. Ray III has made no secret of his desire to gain control of the assets of the exchange and its subsidiaries to pay off his debts.. On January 17, FTX announced that it had discovered more than $5.5 billion in liquid assets through its investigations, with more than $3 billion owed to its top 50 debtors.
This was not the first case in February in which Alameda-linked wallets moved funds. On February 2, Blockchain security firm PeckShield alerted that “Alameda Consolidation” received $13 million worth of crypto assets from three different wallets..
