As happens every time a new Apple device hits the market, iFixit takes care of gutting it . Now it has been the turn of the Apple Watch Series 6 and, as often happens, there are several surprises inside.
Externally, the Apple Watch Series 6 looks very similar to the Series 5, but not inside. It turns out that there are quite a few internal adjustments and modifications to make room for new functions and sensors , such as the sensor capable of measuring oxygen in blood.
More battery and bigger Taptic Engine
It seems that Apple has managed to miniaturize many of the internal components of the Apple Watch Series 6 , since in the new model we find a battery with more capacity and a larger Taptic Engine.
As for the battery, the 44mm Apple Watch Series 6 incorporates a 1.17 Wh battery . This is a slight 3.5 percent increase over the battery used in the Apple Watch Series 5.
The 40mm Apple Watch Series 6 , which iFixit has also completely disassembled, has a capacity of 1,024 Wh . An 8.5 percent increase over the previous 40mm model.
The Taptic Engine , the motor in charge of vibrations, is larger in the Apple Watch Series 6 . In addition, the frame has been slightly modified with a narrower border.
iFixit concludes that this adjustment, coupled with the elimination of Force Touch, is the reason why the Apple Watch Series 6 are slightly thinner than last year’s models, 10.4 mm versus 10.74 mm.
From iFixit they have been quite impressed with Apple . Especially for being able to offer more sensors and battery in a smaller space. They are also surprised that Apple does not show off more of it.
THEY JUST KEEP POLISHING THIS THING TO AN EVER HIGHER SHEEN AND IT’S ALMOST DECEPTIVE HOW MUCH OF THAT THEY DON’T TELL YOU ABOUT, KEEPING ALL THE FOCUS ON THE COOL HEALTH FEATURES.
As for the traditional repairability score, the Apple Watch Series 6 gets a 6 , which isn’t all bad. The note is because replacing the screen and battery is pretty straightforward.
