the mexican airline Aeromar suspended operations this Wednesday and canceled the flights he had scheduled today, reported users on social networks who had scheduled trips.
“Dear Aeromar passengers:
Derived from the suspension of fuel supply and airport services, we inform you that our flights have been cancelled. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused, and on behalf of all the Aeromar staff, we offer you a sincere apology,” says a message posted on the airline’s counters at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM).
Aeromar is in a delicate financial situation, since it has debts with the airport authorities, with the SAT and its workers.
According to media reports, the AICM ordered the company to settle a debt of 554 million pesos no later than February 15 in order for it to continue operating. Likewise, Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA) said that it would not supply more fuel to Aeromar until it paid the debt, also with the same deadline.
Upon reaching the deadline, the Aeromar aircraft that are still operating have been grounded and flights to and from the following destinations have been suspended:
- Mexico City,
- Acapulco,
- Aguascalientes,
- Cancun,
- Chetumal,
- Victoria City,
- Colima,
- Cozumel,
- Guadalajara,
- Ixtapa Zihuatanejo,
- Ixtepec,
- Mazatlan,
- Merida,
- Monterey,
- black stones,
- Hidden port,
- Puebla,
- Vallarta Port,
- Tepic and Villahermosa;
- Havana Cuba;
- Laredo, Texas, and
- McAllen, Texas.
On the other hand, the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) ordered that no new flight plans be authorized for three Aeromar aircraft. According to the agency’s statistics, at the end of 2022, there were only 6 aircraft operating, so until now, there were only three Aeromar aircraft performing flights.
LEE: Cofece sanctions a Cabal Peniche company for indirect purchase of Interjet
This would be the second Mexican airline to suspend operations in less than 3 yearsafter Interjet (currently in bankruptcy) did the same in 2020 due to defaults with the Treasury, airport authorities and their workers.
Other reports indicate that, given the crisis the company is going through, Aeromar workers are looking to work for other lines, such as Aeroméxico.
