One of the sticking points at the launch of Overwatch 2, beyond the endless queues, was the need to verify our Battle.net account via SMS on a mobile device. A method for avoid creating fake accounts or the proliferation of players with bad behavior, but that led to a negative response from the community.
Consequently, Blizzard relaxed the requirements for it, waiving players of the first Overwatch on any platform and only requiring those who were newbies to jump through hoops. Now, Activision has revealed on its website that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will also require users to register through a phone number.
The same applies to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019, seeking with this measure “limiting the number of free accounts that a single person can create helps players to be responsible for their actions and, in turn, reduces toxicity and traps and ensures a positive community experience for all players.”
However, one of the exceptions to this rule are “some mobiles with prepaid plans”, which may not work and VoIP numbers are excluded, that is, those that use voice calls in third-party applications. In short, unless you have a contract with a mobile company, you will most likely not be able to play the Infinity Ward title through Battle.net.
Of course, there is still reveal if Activision will also relax the requirements for the FPS that aims to return the glory of yesteryear to the saga. Everything is ready for the title landing on October 28 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC.
