It’s been a long time since we first saw the announcement of The Outlast Trials, the next installment of the horror franchise created by the Red Barrels studio in 2013. We could see it again during the Gamescom Opening Night Live, where the study showed us the title in all its fullness, giving several brushstrokes to the story that this title presents us, and its playability, which differs a lot from what we have seen in the two previous installments. According to RedBarrels, The Outlast Trials will be more like a television series.
In an interview with the medium PlayStation Blog, the co-founder of Red Barrels, Philippe Morin, gave many more details about what differentiates this Trials both from the previous two games, as well as from other horror games. In Morin’s words, Outlast 1 and 2 were more like a movie, and this Trials is more like a television series, since the journey that we must complete to achieve freedom will be much longer.

We have also learned that the title is being developed with the Unreal Engine 4 engine, and that this has given the development team enough freedom to use new ideas and thus surprise users. The Outlast Trials will hit the market sometime in 2022.
