Several leakers believe that a beta will be announced soon for Overwatch 2 which will be released in March 2022. The game was first announced in 2019, but since then little has been officially revealed about the successor to Blizzard Entertainment’s popular team-based hero shooter. Although Blizzard delayed Overwatch 2 to November 2021, both the original release date and the new date remain unknown.
Expanding on the first installment, it is expected that Overwatch 2 redesign the characters of the franchise and redefine their gameplay. Major balance changes will be introduced in the sequel, with the change to teams of five players instead of six being the biggest difference. Overwatch 2 will also change the appearance of the characters and their abilities in the game, which will lead to new strategies and tactics. PvE modes, in which a group of players cooperate to take down hordes of computer-controlled enemies, will also be a big part of Overwatch 2. The project has reportedly had a troubled production run, including the departure of its director and executive producer, but Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard game studios may help breathe new life into the game.
Now, rumors suggest that a beta of Overwatch 2 in the coming weeks for a March release. The possible news comes from a number of different sources, including YouTuber WorstSombra and Twitter user FireTheGull, who appear to back up each other’s claims. WorstSombra reports that Blizzard recently invited several Overwatch content creators to “secret meetings,” each of whom signed a non-disclosure agreement. These meetings were apparently to do with the upcoming Overwatch 2 beta, and FireTheGull has also pointed to Overwatch game files that point to an upcoming demo.
Although these leaks are not yet confirmed, the release of Overwatch 2 it would somehow coincide with the next season of the Overwatch League. Last year it was announced that competitive Overwatch teams will be using an early version of Overwatch 2 for their 2022 season. The Overwatch League is planning to move to the title’s sequel for competitive use, but Overwatch 2 delays caused it to be rumored. that the esports competition would also be delayed. However, Blizzard has unexpectedly announced that professional gamers will be using an early version of Overwatch 2 for the 2022 OWL season. The next season is scheduled for April 2022, so a beta in March would fit in perfectly with that schedule.
Initially, fans were excited by the announcement of Overwatch 2, but the delays and the lack of new information have dimmed the hopes of the players in the project. However, a beta launch over the next month could easily reignite interest in the team shooter sequel, especially if it releases before the 2022 Overwatch League season. However, the beta is merely a rumor, so only time will tell if fans actually get their hands on Overwatch 2 in March.
