A copy of the McLaren F1 auctioned this weekend in Monterey has been crowned the new all-time record for the British model by reaching a final bid of $ 20.46 million. The highest value ever paid for a unit of the British firm.
Last weekend the most important events of the Monterey Car Week, including the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance or the various auctions held in parallel to the various classic events and which are among the most prestigious and media of the year. So we can find some of the most select pieces on the calendar and it is quite common for some records to be broken.
In this edition there was a lot of expectation due to the cancellation of the 2020 edition due to sanitary restrictions arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, so there were many pieces waiting for an event of this magnitude for a long time. One of them is the example of the McLaren F1 that illustrates this article and that we already talked about at the beginning of summer, when it was announced for sale.
This specimen is number 29 of the 106 McLaren F1 produced between 1992 and 1998Specifically in 1995, and to this day, more than 25 years after leaving the Woking factory, it is still considered a brand new model, since with 388 kilometers of use it still has not completed its initial filming.
Record
In June we told you that this specimen promised to break the records of the model, which was not easy because The McLaren F1 is one of the few modern models that has managed to trade close to 20 million dollars, but this unit has managed to exceed all expectations, because if the auction house, Gooding & Company, predicted a value around 15 million, it has finally managed to even exceed the barrier of 20 million, with a last bid of $ 20,465,000.
This price slightly exceeds the previous absolute record of the model, one of the few and valuable McLaren F1 High Downforce Package that managed to be sold by $ 19.8 million in 2019. The record for a unit of the base version of the model was 15.62 million obtained in 2017 for unit # 044, both also auctioned in Monterey. The reasons for the high price of this F1 are several, since in addition to having an absurdly low mileage figure, it also has a very unusual color configuration, with the body in Creighton Brown and the interior in brown leather and beige.
