It was conceived in China but also in Europe. The tuning of the Volkswagen ID.6 was conceived between Europe and Asia, finally landing in the Chinese giant with two variants and different details between one or the other. Now, a report that comes from Germany points out that the German firm intends to export units to the Old Continent from 2022.
It has become normal for many Asian manufacturers to carry out part of the development of new cars on European roads, even without any intention of selling their novelties on the Old Continent. The case of Volkswagen ID.6 It is one of those specials, since the first camouflaged prototypes appeared on the roads of the Asian giant, but they were also seen in winter tests in Sweden and on the roads of Austrian Tyrol.
Indications that the electric model was being also calibrated for a commercial launch in EuropeThe deadlines were unknown and they came to nothing when their commercialization in China was announced. However, now a report indicates that those responsible for Volkswagen, with Herbert Diess at the head, plan to launch this high-capacity electric SUV in the markets of the Old Continent, considering an announcement soon and which they have described as a “turning point”, according to the German source.
The Volkswagen ID.6 will arrive in Europe to fill the electric space of the Touareg
The terms of the announcement are not known but it points to a figure of around 15,000 units of ID.6 manufactured in China and shipped to Europe each year, estimating sales of 80,000 units of the model in five years. Some more than high and ambitious figures, so it would almost be a masterpiece of the German brand by bringing a model from the Far East where production costs are lower than in Europe.
According to “Business Insider”, which has collected the words of an authorized Volkswagen source, noting that “If the models are successful in one market, it is natural that market opportunities in other regions are also analyzed. Of course, this also applies to the seven-seater ID.6 SUV. Volkswagen could also open a new market segment in Europe. A decision has not yet been made on whether the ID.6 will be launched on the European market. ‘ Bad news for the firm’s European plants, which require a higher workload.
Leaving aside the business part, The ID.6 would be one of the first models in the 7-seater electric SUV segment, which is about to explode and has hardly any representatives. The derivative of the concept ID CROZZ would be positioned in the offer in Europe at the same height as the Touareg, with its 4,876 millimeters long, compared to the 4,878 millimeters of the combustion SUV. The model will feature a range of versions with known maximum powers, from 132 kW, 150 kW and 225 kW, with one and two electric motors and two batteries, the most powerful with 58 and 77 kWh of net capacities, with up to 500 kilometers of autonomy.
