The aggravated shortage of microchips, coupled with tougher emission limits in major countries, have forced Mercedes to make a severe immediate decision that affects the United States in particular. The signature of the star has stopped the delivery of models with V8 engine until new date.
Despite stockpiling microchips, manufacturers’ stocks are dwindling considerably, to the point that the situation forces to change the strategy practically per week. In the case of Mercedes, not many weeks ago that the brand indicated that it dedicated the microchips that it had for higher margin models, and we also know that certain equipment has been canceled on some models.
Something that is already normal and common in other manufacturers. However, the latest decision of the star giant has surprised, because has canceled the delivery of units with V8 engines in the United States. An emergency formula, but also one that will seriously harm your sales, since it affects the units that customers have already ordered and that they will not receive within the estimated terms. The truth is that it is not known when, because the decision does not have an expiration date.
Mercedes V8 engines will return to the United States in the future
Microchips have influenced the decision, but also the adjustment that they must make in their models due to the new emission standards in some countries, obeying “global, external and internal requirements, as well as various other factors” that the manufacturer has not specified further.
And it is that this decision has been carried forward the world premiere of the new Mercedes SL, scheduled for August 12, a novelty that will not be present at the Munich IAA 2021, and also that of the AMG S 63 e and the AMG GT 73 e Saloon, the two sports sedans that debut plug-in hybrid technology.
According to the news agency “Autonews”, the German brand has not given great explanations beyond a confirmation on this new position, so nothing is known about the supply of the V8 blocks to Aston Martin for Vantage, DB11 and DBX. In this sense, it is worth remembering the existence of a contract and that the decision is a sole proprietorship of Mercedes, so the German firm is obliged to supply engines to the British.
