On the other hand, Lewis claims that the money he and the Tuohys received for the film is nowhere near the millions.. The author details that, after paying the taxes and the corresponding deductions, each received a $70,000 payment from 20th Century Studios for the rights to the book. Later, when the production passed into the hands of a small production company called Alcon, distributed by Warner, he and the Tuohys received about $350,000 tax-free. Lewis acknowledged that it’s strange that such a figure would come from a movie that brought in more than $300 million at the box office, but he blames the Hollywood establishment for it:
“Everyone should be mad at the Hollywood studio system. Michael Oher should join the writers’ strike. It’s heartbreaking how Hollywood accounting works, but the money isn’t in the Tuohys’ pockets.”
Besides, He related that two years ago Oher approached him to try to organize a tour discussing the book to generate money.. However, that never materialized.
