The control for video games is key to the development of the games and, of course, the desired success. But others consider that it is not necessary to be comfortable, but impact. It is the case of syna player who participated in a tournament of Tekken 7… with a replica of Cloud Strife’s sword (Final Fantasy 7), 1.5 meters and 22 kilos.
Syn adapted a control to the iron sword and participated with it in the tournament in Birmingham, called VSFighting X, according to the Kotaku review. He was ranked 49th out of 380 total players, according to the portal Event Hubs.
The device cost between $800 and $1,200, and was designed by arcade controller maker Fightstick Guy.
This is how Syn worked with Cloud’s sword for the Tekken 7 tournament
In a video broadcast by the user NwanzoSyn showed how he plays Tekken 7 with his control / sword. He places it on his legs and while he handles the lever with his left, he presses the buttons with his right, as if it were an arcade game.
You may be very comfortable playing with Cloud Strife’s sword, but carrying it around isn’t very pleasant to say the least. Let’s remember: it measures 1.5 meters and weighs 22 kilograms.
Syn had him make a special strap to put on his back, and you can see the difficulty of carrying it from one place to another. However, to wear it, anything is valid.
“Mechanically it is quite simple. It’s a solid piece of steel, it only has a few holes for the joystick and its buttons. The wiring is then glued and soldered into the metal.” he explained to Kotaku.
“I screwed on a strap so I could wear it Cloud Strife style. I’m planning on hooking up some green LEDs below the buttons, so they glow like matter. Hopefully, I’ll have it ready for Halloween.”
The greatest difficulties of using the sword – control
The player recognizes that the greatest difficulty is in the people moving around her in public events, since the spaces are extremely small, but to work with her she is “perfectly precise”.
But most uncomfortable of all, according to Syn, it is having to explain to people that it is not a weapon, but a control. He had to do it with two policemen in the center of the city. “That was the only problem I had”, which he defined as “really uncomfortable”.
During the weekend of the event he charged his sword for 14 hours. “I woke up on Sunday to see the first 24 players feeling as if I had fought ten rounds with Mike Tyson and my legs still hurt. However, it’s worth it.”
