Space exploration reached unexpected heights in the 21st century. Even the one of have up to 19 people off Earth at the same time.
This curious episode occurred on December 11, 2021 for a few minutes, when three expeditions coincided.
Shortly after 15:00 UTC that day, three expeditions remained in the area: on a Blue Origin NS-19 spacecraft, on the Chinese Tiangong station and on the International Space Station.
Although we know that the two laboratories remain in orbit to the present, it must be specified that Blue Origin was a flight of space tourists which crossed the so-called Karman line.
This line is located about 100 kilometers above the earth’s surface, and marks the invisible border between our planet’s atmosphere and space.
Let’s remember that jeff bezos company focuses on this type of temporary flights, to give people the experience of feeling like astronauts.
When the Blue Origin ship passed the limit, the record of 19 people in space was set.
The 19 people who were in space at the same time
This “crowd” outside our planet was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records, as a sample of the evolution of technology for space exploration.
Ten people on the International Space Station: US astronauts Mark Vande Hei, Raja Chari, Thomas Marshburn and Kayla Barron; Russian cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov, Pyotr Dubrov and Alexander Misurkin; the German Matthias Maurer and the Japanese Yusaku Maezawa and Yozo Hirano.
Six people at Blue Origin: Americans Laura Shepard Churchley, Michael Strahan, Dylan Taylor, Evan Dick, Lane Bess and Cameron Bess.
Three people in Tiangong: the Chinese Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu.
Thus, in a matter of 60 years, humanity went from having a person in orbit, Soviet Yuri Gagarin (1961) to 19 at the same time (2021).
