Just a few days ago, Bethesda announced the celebration of the QuakeCon 2021 for next August 19 and, it so happens that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the saga, which will be celebrated with a special panel with developers from ID Software and Machine Games. This could be the time when a new “revitalized” version from the classic arena shooter.
Although it has already been changed at the time of publication of this post, as shown Xbox Era, the description of the panel in the official calendar of the event suggested the presentation of a new version of Quake with new content in collaboration from ID Software with the creators of the Wolfenstein reboot.
“Quake is back, in this special broadcast, John Linneman of Digital Foundry talks with Jerk Gustafsson of MachineGames about the iconic legacy of the title and what it meant to both of them,” the opening description ensured. “The pair will also discuss the additional content that Machine Games has contributed to this revitalized edition.”
What is not clear, at the moment, is what Bethesda means by the revitalized version. It could refer to an improved version of the current Quake Champions or a completely new delivery. The other question is who would be in charge of its development, the logical thing would be to think that ID Software, since it does not have any confirmed project in sight. Unlike Machine Games, which is creating the new Indiana Jones game that Bethesda is preparing, although it has contributed some content.
In any case, we will have to wait for the celebration of QuakeCon 2021 to learn new details about this mythical Bethesda franchise. The fans are sure to be looking forward to it, since last year’s edition had to be canceled due to the coronavirus.
