Parents of a minor with DiGeorge Syndrome or 22q syndrome make videos of the life of the little patient whom we can identify by the name of Indi go viral on social networks.
Among most of the videos that went viral on social networks, we can see the minor Indi with DiGeorge syndrome being treated by health personnel, the first stage of her life before being diagnosed with 22q syndrome.
What is DiGeorge Syndrome?
According to the UK National Health Service (NHS), DiGeorge syndrome is a condition present from birth that can cause a variety of lifelong problems, including heart defects and learning difficulties.
The severity of the condition varies. Some children can be seriously ill and very occasionally die from it, but many others can grow up not realizing they have it.
This syndrome is caused by a problem with a person’s genes, called a 22q11 deletion. Usually parents do not pass it on to a child, but it is in some cases. It is often diagnosed shortly after birth with a blood test to check for the genetic fault.
International DiGeorge Syndrome Day
On this day, the aim is to raise awareness and sensitize society about this genetic disorder, in support of those affected.
Likewise, promote research and advances in the diagnosis, treatment and therapy of DiGeorge Syndrome, to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
