A new electric model from Toyota has just leaked, again from a patent filing. His drawings display a more modern aesthetic, but also feature special details that add to the mystery. Are we facing the future 100% electric Toyota BZ2 or the C-HR?
The Australian patent registry has released the drawings of the production model of a new Toyota model, very faithfully reproducing the main lines of the Toyota BZ Small SUV EV. A concept car that anticipated a future 100% electric SUV of small proportions included in the new range of zero emission models of «BeyondZero».
The filtration it is the less mysterious, since it more clearly shows some production details of a new Toyota, such as the fine headlights with a suggestive boomerang shape, which follow the path of the new BZ4X, while also respecting the attractive shape of the side of the conceptual advance, especially the sloping rear pillar that advocates extra sportiness and that, together with the rear, give this part an enveloping effect. The revelation, advanced by the colleagues of «Drive», also shows some slim taillights below the rear window.
The Toyota BZ Small SUV EV is emerging as a replacement for the C-HR
Are the characters of the future Toyota BZ2an electric crossover as an alternative to C-HR that would break into a B segment with more and more models of sustainable mobility. However, a closer look reveals a couple of strange details: the first is the large cooling grill that occupies the front bumper, too large for a 100% electric model, which does not need as much airflow. Even bigger than the new Toyota bZ4X.
The second detail is that they are appreciated two covers on the rear wings, one on the left and one on the right, although not as clearly as we have seen in other leaks. This does not necessarily mean that it is a PHEV, since the bZ4X sold in China has two charging ports, one on each front fender. But, despite the fact that the general design corresponds to the concept of BeyondZerocharging ports and large front grille tip the scales, once again, in the a C-HR with a PHEV system.
The truth is that it is an absolute mystery. Toyota is silent, but points to the replacement of the C-HR, a model that accumulates already five long years on the market and whose successor is expected in 2023. Japanese sources point out that the Japanese brand has adapted the “e-TGNA” platform for the use of hybrids and plug-in hybrids in addition to electric ones, so the second generation of this successful model will have combustion versions, PHEV and even a 100% electric one. A mystery that we hope will be solved before autumn 2023, when the new C-HR is expected to debut.
