Is 90 m2 house and more than 50 m2 of terrace It is located on the first floor of a residential building in Barcelona. The study GokoStudio Architects It has been in charge of carrying out its integral reform thanks to which its circulation has been updated and now it looks towards the large terrace.
The new distribution literally revolves around a multifunctional cube that far from trying to go unnoticed, seeks to draw attention to its blue lacquer coating. This module connects and supports all rooms while filling personality and modernity to the floor.
Before the reform, the house was tremendously dark: “Just as Barcelona before the Olympics lived with its back to the sea, Casa MEQ flatly ignored its generous 50 m2 terrace with a façade more than 7 meters wide” explain from GokoStudio. Before the reform, the house had only two small windows with barss in the rooms and a narrow door in the kitchen, which functionally linked interior and exterior. One of the most important objectives of the reform was connect the terrace with the interior, not only functionally, but visually and spatially.
After the reform in the apartment, a very large day area has been achieved, open to its large and extremely bright terrace. The two rooms, on the other hand, are oriented towards the façade and both are configured as en-suite rooms.
The large terrace very connected with the interior
To achieve the opening of the terrace to the house, they have opened large windows so that the light does not find barriers to get fully into the house.
this opening did not leave partitions to install radiators. Therefore, the solution of heating was solved with radiators built into the step of the terracewhich go completely unnoticed and form an excellent cold barrier.
On the terrace, a raised garden even the height of the skylights conceals the height of the two large skylights that illuminate the ground floor car park. With this garden it has been possible to add a differentiating space, ideal for relaxing and soaking up the afternoon sun.
In the lower level terrace The technical platform that simulates wood has been installed and it is a generous space that has enough space to enjoy a living and dining area.
Although it is not furnished, it does already have shade thanks to the awnings that provide shade and privacy to the large terrace.
The multifunctional blue cube that gives solutions and personality to the project
The central blue cube is a design of GokoStudio with which all the facilities, storage spaces and wet rooms are resolved, in addition to giving great strength and personality to the entire design. A meticulous work by the studio that has been able to transform a problem into a design resource.
The blue lacquered cube welcomes inside multiple functions: installation of air conditioning through ducts in its upper part, two bathrooms, the bedroom closets and a multifunctional wardrobe that overlooks the living room, which even serves as a bench where to sit to take off and put on street shoes and that vibrates to the respectful and happy rhythm of its inhabitants.
The rest of the project revolves around the color blue, the light from the terrace and the wood on the floor.
An open day area connected to the outside
The day area opens to the outside and is designed for family life, in such a way that the dining room, kitchen and living room share the same open space.
On the opposite side to the terrace, two white sliding doorson both sides of the blue cube, make it possible to compartmentalize this area and give the rooms the necessary privacy.
The online furniture of the kitchen is perfectly camouflaged in the space. This is partly thanks to the chalk color of the furniture, that extends to the walls, but also that the appliances are hidden. Two natural wood shelves provide depth.
The kitchen does not have an island because that way the possibility of sharing the large day space was left open, creating a third room – which was one of the client’s requirements.
Two en-suite bedrooms: with bathrooms and dressing area
The genius of the blue cube design allows it to accommodate two bathrooms to get two en-suite rooms. This cube also includes the corresponding wardrobes in the rooms and camouflages the air conditioning, all always lacquered in an intense blue that contrasts with the white and wood that dominate the rest of the rooms.
By day when the sliding doors that separate the day area from the bedrooms and bathrooms are open, light floods the two rooms of the house, since it enters through the large windows that overlook the terrace and also through the windows on the opposite side.
The final result is a new optimistic and bright house that is now connected to the outside, where every square centimeter has been used for the enjoyment of the family that lives there.
