A federal judge in the state of Acre (northern) in Brazil is in the eye of the storm, as it was discovered that he wrote a crucial ruling using Artificial Intelligence (AI). How was it discovered? The document had notable errors that were attributed to the authorship of ChatGPT.
The magistrate, named Jefferson Rodriguesbased his writing on false procedural records that purported to come from the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ), one of the highest courts in Brazil.
The National Council of Justice (CNJ) asked the judge to explain the content of the document, who described the situation as “a simple error”, caused by the excessive workload that judges usually face.
“The disagreements occurred due to the use of a virtual tool that proved to be inadequate,” Rodrigues justified. stating that he blamed a colleague for the incident.
The National Council of Justice stated: “We believe this is the first case” of its kind in the country. The same organization granted 15 days to the accused judge (as of Wednesday, November 8) to clarify the “error.”
