Despite its recent reform, the essence of the Eixample is still appreciated in this apartment in Barcelona. Its owners, a German couple, were looking for a central location and with character, maintaining some of the characteristics of the local architecture.
With these requirements, the search was limited to the emblematic Eixample district, where they found this 136 m2 apartment in a building with a historic façade but completely rehabilitated inside, so the intervention of the Tinda’s Project studio, in charge of its design, focused on the furnishing, decoration and final props.
Although the property was already renovatedu plant is the traditional one of these buildings narrow and elongated with an exterior exit at both ends, one of them to a main street and the other to the typical inner courtyard of a block. Its most social zone included open and connected spaces. The result is two double bedrooms, a complete bathroom, a suite with a bathroom, a small study, the laundry room, the kitchen, the living-dining room and the terrace.
The lack of natural light in some rooms led to the choice of a very clear overall color palette, of white walls and oak parquet, which combine perfectly with the usual finish of the study, in a mouse gray tone, implemented in practically all the custom furniture, splashed some touches of black.
Classic distribution but updated to the new times
The access is right in the center of the floorsomething that facilitates a perfect differentiation between the day area and the night area, which is on each side of a large hall, which includes a large window.
What stands out most in the hall is the detail of the original hydraulic floor as a carpet, in a clear allusion to the type of flooring used in these stately homes. It is perfectly integrated into the oak parquet and its patterned aesthetic is enhanced against to custom furniture that Tinda’s Project manufactured “ex profeso” for this space, based on the studio’s own design in a mouse gray tone combined with the detail of the Integrated niche in oak wood and mirror.
day zone
In this house we chose locate the day area in the interiorthe quietest and with direct access to the terrace/gallery. Thus, accessing the right hand side of the hall and after a short corridor, a small space opens up as a living-dining room anteroom where a custom-made piece of furniture has been arranged, with the same design as the one in the hall, and which also houses a small wine cellar.
In front of this comfortable and practical passage space is the separate kitchen with sliding doors. Its U-shaped distribution responds to a practical daily use, with the central part completely clear, and the white lacquered furniture, including the silestone countertopprovides the luminosity that it lacks naturally, since it has a window but overlooks an interior patio.
Crossing an original double span, you reach to the large social space shared by the living room and dining room, directly connected to the terrace, so the light here is guaranteed.
The dining room for six includes a table made to measure by Tinda’s Project, in oak, matching the finish of the wooden parts of its furniture. Next to it is the corner sofa, also made to measure. The rug in the living area is also custom. The result is a space that gives off a visual harmony with the same line in terms of tones and materials, only altered by the black details of the three lamps and some touches of color on the cushionsgenerating a very elegant and calm set that is repeated in all the rooms as a common thread.
The terracewith the option of the enclosure, reminds even more of the physiognomy of the traditional back galleries that the houses in this area of Barcelona usually have, with views of a quiet and large block patio, also very characteristic of the architectural framework of the area. Venetian blinds help screen out direct sunlight and allow you to enjoy both the practical dining room and the small relaxation area with sofa that has been created in this space, without a doubt, one of the most enjoyed by the owners.
night area
Back to the hall, towards the other end, are the rest rooms and the bathrooms. A corridor articulates the two double bedrooms and the bathroom they share, also acts as a courtesy toilet when there are visitors. A central piece of furniture made to measure by the studio shows the same mouse gray lacquered finishes as the rest of the floor, adding black handles as a distinguished detail.
The suite -and one of the bedroomss- faces the main street, so it has a lot of light, a reason that has been used to include pieces and details in a darker gray tone, such as the headboard and the bed, made to measure. One of the resources to visually enlarge the suite is the mirrors with which the two cabinets that look out onto the balcony have been dressed and that reflect said luminosity.
As for the bathroom in the suite, it follows the same stylistic and finishing guidelines as the other bathroom, with a predominance of white in flooring and cladding and with custom-made furniture in lacquered MDF and oak wood, and black handles.
