This Wednesday, Twitter announced the launch of two new features: the Security mode, which will automatically and temporarily block accounts that post harmful, aggressive or abusive comments; and the Super Follow, a monetization alternative, that allows users to pay a monthly subscription to access exclusive content from their preferred accounts.
Safe mode, against abuse, harassment and bullying
Security Mode will be available in beta in a small group of accounts with English settings enabled, both in the apps for iOS and Android and in the web version Twitter.com (mobile and desktop). The company said it plans to expand the pool of appraisal accounts in the coming months.
How does Security Mode work? It is a function that lock accounts for seven days for using potentially harmful language, such as insults or hateful comments, or for sending repetitive and unwanted replies or mentions. In addition, the company clarifies that you can undo automatic locks made by mistake.
About how this mode works, Jarrod Doherty, the company’s senior product manager, explained the following through a post on the official Twitter blog:
When the function is activated in the Settings, our systems will evaluate the probability of a negative interaction, considering both the content of the tweet and the relationship between the author and the responder. Our technology takes existing relationships into account, so accounts that you follow or frequently interact with will not be automatically blocked.
Twitter unveiled Safe Mode in February as an alternative to reduce abuse, harassment, and cyberbullying on the platform. Other recent features include hiding replies, allowing people to limit who can reply to your posts, and displaying a warning before tweeting a potentially harmful reply.

Super Follow: the most anticipated monetization feature
After a long wait, Twitter finally officially launches the Super Follow; however, it is still a very limited option, both in terms of functions and the number of users for whom it is available.
The Super Follow, which began testing in June of this year, allows Twitter users to pay a monthly subscription to access exclusive content from their favorite accounts.
Now that it has been officially released, the feature only It is available for some accounts in the United States and Canada, and for now only for those who are users of the app on iOS (both creators and subscribers). According to Twitter, support for Android and the web version “is coming soon.”
To be eligible to activate Super Follow, users must have at least 10,000 followers, be 18 years or older, have tweeted 25 times in the last 30 days, and, for now, be in the United States.
Another limitation of Super Follow is its usefulness, since accounts that meet the requirements to use it will only be able to use this monetization alternative to publish tweets and not other types of content supported by the platform; before this, the social network promises that more options will be added soon, such as exclusive spaces, newsletters, or the possibility of subscribing to an account anonymously.
Subscription costs to Super Follows are $ 2.99, $ 4.99 or $ 9.99 per month; the content creator is the one who sets the monthly fee for your account.
For now, some of the tweeters who are part of the program are the sports analyst @ KingJosiah54, the writer @myeshachou, the makeup artist @MakeupForWOC, and the tarot reader @TarotByBronx.
