Telegram It is one of the most popular messaging applications in the world, and its statistics confirm it. In recent days, the platform reached 1 billion global downloads and it has joined the select group of apps that has reached that brand.
As posted by TechCrunch, the figure was reported by the Sensor Tower firm. According to the report, Telegram had impressive growth in the first half of 2021. In that period, it registered almost 215 million downloads, which marked a growth of 61% compared to the same period in 2020.
Although Telegram is a platform known throughout the world, it has a very significant adoption rate in specific markets. India, for example, is the country that registers the highest number of installations of this app, and accounts for 22% of the downloads since its launch. For their part, Russia (10%) and Indonesia (8%) are the countries that follow in terms of the largest number of users.
Telegram capitalized on public anger over WhatsApp changes
Although Telegram offers a wide section of its own characteristics that make it worthy of praise, has also taken advantage of the public’s anger towards WhatsApp. Recall that, months ago, the Facebook messaging service came under fire after the constant back and forth regarding its new terms and conditions of service.
It was in this framework that Telegram was able to capitalize to attract more people to test your app. Bear in mind, however, that the global number of downloads is not equivalent to the number of people who use it regularly. Earlier this year, the company behind the app announced that it had surpassed 500 million active users per month.
In addition, in recent months it has taken important leaps by incorporating new features. Among the most requested were group video calls, which were added to the service at the end of last June.
The truth is Telegram definitely enters the elite of mobile applications, and promises to continue growing. Other “heavyweights” that have already surpassed a billion downloads are Facebook, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, Spotify, and Netflix.
