The German firm is in full transition to electric cars. The new generations of its models will enhance their offer with zero emission options, with the aim of reaching 2030 without combustion offer. Oliver Zipse has revealed in an interview an interesting surprise, an electric sports convertible.
The forced transition to electric cars is a reality. From 2025 to 2030, all brands will change the business model to zero-emission cars, entering the next decade without gasoline, diesel or plug-in hybrids. A new strategy that is expected to the same bodies are reproduced we’ve seen so far, including niche ones.
BMW It is also called a dream factory, as it not only fulfills the wishes of some of its top managers, but also those of its clients. Watch an electric M was impossible a few years ago, the first has already been presented -the i4 M50- and the second will arrive at the end of the year, the iX M60. Saloon and SUV but the Bavarians are capable of anything, especially those who leave more money in the box, and those who like exclusivity. So much so, that Oliver Zipse has revealed in an interview to a German media a long-term surprise, and almost more of a confirmation.
An electric convertible at BMW has possibilities
The German does not plan to “give up strong emotions or the most special personalities”, clearly including coupes and convertibles. For Zipse, that a model is electric does not mean losing a more distinguished style, one of the qualities that this type of less versatile body provides. Rather the opposite, because already think about an electric convertible. Although he is not the only one who has, because Herbert Diess, the CEO of Volkswagen already threw the stone a few months ago and did not exactly hide.
And in a few days, the Audi Skysphere concept will also be discovered, a preview of an electric targa that we have already seen in some teasers. Actually, this is not a real surprise. We know for a fact that the i8 has a relay assigned and this time it will be completely electric, so it can be considered that the i8 Roadster will also have an heir and that will materialize Zipse’s thoughts.
What is not known for now are the terms of arrival to the market of the i8 futures, and the electric convertible. The firm is focused on renewing the range, some models that will very possibly exhaust this decade with the combustion by flag, but with a special attention to the plug-in and electric hybrids that, almost, will be the majority.
