You must have a strategy with what you publish on social networks.
There is no doubt: modern technologies have given rise to a sphere that we could well call “online life”. And, to tell the truth, few people in this world resist creating their own profile, chatting with a friend or sharing images with the hope of receiving dozens of “likes.”
There are those who consider social networks to be a simple tool for socializing or even a waste of time, but the reality is that they are much more than that. Today they allow spread job offers, form alliances and even start businesses. Faced with this scenario, things change: we live in an era in which the image on the networks cannot be a factor that should be taken lightly.
Companies know that if they don’t get into the social media game, their brand may die sooner or later. Likewise, they know that they must put extreme care to the image they project through these platforms, because they know that, although it is true that they are a powerful weapon to consolidate a product or service, they can also be fatal if there is any carelessness.
The same thing happens with people. A profile photo can say a lot about us, our goals and interests. It is no exaggeration to say that such photos could be decisive when it comes to finding a job. Many important companies base their first judgments on what they see in the profile of the applicants, and there are even companies that have a policy of Check social networks before hiring a person.
It seems that the world interprets that how you behave on the networks, you will behave in real life. You wouldn’t want to miss a great opportunity by not being careful in this regard. TRUE?
Take note of these tips and follow the etiquette to post on your social networks:
Profile picture
It is the face that will appear again and again when posting information, hence the importance that must be given to it. Believe it or not, the colors of your clothes will play an important role in the message you will convey. Don’t abuse Photoshop: a highly retouched photo could reveal your insecurities. Don’t go to the other extreme either: a washed, unkempt face or making crazy gestures could show that you are a carefree person.
Comments
People may make a judgment about you based on a comment you make. Try to avoid political comments or, if you want to make them, try to be cautious and respectful. Likewise, avoid messages of fanaticism (for example, about a sport) that can make you seem radical and inflexible. And please, don’t get involved in absurd discussions! Seek to be equanimous and maintain your sanity.
Places you frequent
You do check-in in each and every place you visit, including the little store on the corner? This could be annoying to your followers and a red flag to recruiters. Why would they want to hire someone who bombards their acquaintances and not so acquaintances with relevant information?
Vocabulary
Taking care of your vocabulary is one of the most important aspects. A person who exposes bad vocabulary shows himself to be disrespectful and rude. Companies definitely won’t want to hire someone like that.
Posting schedule
Companies often investigate whether candidates make comments or upload photos during work hours, since it is very likely that they will do the same once they work for them. Even if they work for a company, they could lose their position, since this is considered job abandonment.
Orthography
Writing with spelling mistakes can undermine your credibility and give the impression that you are unprofessional. Even if it is your private profile, look closely at everything you write.
Radical opinions
When important events occur on a global or local level, you might feel drawn to give your opinion or show some “crowd behavior.” Try to show that you are different: companies don’t want more of the same, they want someone who can think for themselves.
The image you give on your networks does count on a professional level. In a matter of seconds, you could appear attractive for a position or lose all credibility and be removed from the list. Have you thought about the impression you want to give?
