Due to its great cultural and natural wealth, Oaxaca is one of the favorite destinations to experience the Day of the Dead season. This year, the party returns to the streets to continue the celebration of life in the company of the entire community, travelers and natives of this great state. For this reason, the Oaxaca Tourism Secretariat, headed by Saymi Pineda Velascorecently presented The Most Lively Party of Allthe program to celebrate like never before Day of the Dead in Oaxaca 2023.
At a press conference in the Bosque de Chapultepec, Victor CataSecretary of Cultures and Arts of Oaxaca, announced that this year the Day of the Dead in Oaxaca 2023 will be a historical reparation, since it is intended that the main beneficiaries are the 16 native cultures and the Afro-Mexican people of Oaxaca.
Likewise, it will be sought that all the regions of Oaxaca are represented at the events in the capital with a sample of their ancestral traditions, with the aim of strengthening them and reversing the filtration of Halloween. “Our dead are not monsters,” said Víctor Cata during the presentation of The Most Lively Party of All.

While the head of the Oaxaca Tourism Secretariat, Saymi Pineda Velasco, announced that the calendar of activities will cover from October 27 to November 4 and 40 delegations from the 13 neighborhoods of Oaxaca capital and six surrounding municipalities will participate. The program is as follows:
Day of the Dead Program in Oaxaca 2023, The Most Lively Party of All
The celebration will begin on Friday, October 27, with the placement of rugs and monumental altars in front of the Government Palace and on Macedonio Alcalá Street. 20 artistic and cultural activities are scheduled that will show the cultural and ritual diversity of the people of Oaxaca.
On Friday the 27th it will begin with a parade in which more than 40 delegations from the 13 traditional neighborhoods of Oaxaca de Juárez and municipalities of the Central Valleys will participate.
Among the activities scheduled from October 28 to November 4, the following free activities stand out:
- Storytellers and narrators of myths and legends,
- Five concerts of ritual music from indigenous peoples in which the Sandunga Philharmonic Band of Santo Domingo Tehuantepec will participate; the Unión y Progreso Philharmonic Band of Villa de Talea de Castro; the Group of Huehuentones of Santa María Chilchotla; the El Maizal de Miahuatlán Traditional Musical Group of Porfirio Díaz, and the Äpeäpe Band of Santa María Tlahuitoltepec.
- Four Day of the Dead-themed concerts, which will be performed by singer Jacinta Fuentes and Son Mequé; Gisela Álvarez; Aldhair “El Mextizo” and his show Velorios with mezcal and tradition; and the singer Cintia Ordaz.
- Outdoor cinema.
- Samples of bakery, sweets and tamales.
- Plastic workshop.
- Two plays: La Llorona and Xhunca.
- Video mapping projection in the Cathedral starting on October 31 at 8 p.m.
- DivertiMuerte, a program with recreational activities that will include a troupe that will depart from the Fountain of the Eight Regions to Paseo Juárez El Llano.
