This is a question that many users ask. Do we really need so much internet speed? What would be the ideal rate that I should hire? This logically depends on certain factors, such as the use that we are going to give the connection, the number of devices, the number of users that connect … In this article we echo a calculator that they have designed to facilitate the task to users.
Calculator to know how much Internet I need
This is a calculator that they have created since Consumer Report. It is very easy to use and shows us, according to the sum of total, how much Internet will a user need. This will help to clear up doubts when we do not know what rate to contract or when the doubt arises as to whether what we have really is going to be enough or we will have problems.
The calculator will analyze the use that we are going to give the connection. It will also ask us what kind of programs or services we are going to use. All this will be added to the final result, which will be the one that tells us what minimum rate we are going to need to navigate without problems.
It is not the same to use the Internet connection only from a computer to browse and send emails, instead of another user who may be using several devices at the same time to download and upload files to the cloud, play in Streaming in maximum quality, video calls, etc.
Therefore, the calculator what it does is analyze all this. It is going to analyze the actual use that we are going to give the connection and it will indicate us what speed we are going to need. Depending on the use, we will consume more or less bandwidth. We will simply have to mark what they ask us, as we see in the image.
In our example We have since we are going to use three devices for social networks, from two we will send emails, another Video Streaming, a couple more Video Streaming but in 4K, those two will also be used to listen to music, play online, another using a video call and also a video surveillance system. Obviously it is a simulation, an example simply to see how useful the calculator is. In this case the approximate minimum that we are going to need is 105 Mbps.
Not all services consume the same
Keep in mind that not everything we use in our day to day will consume the same. We can use a single computer and from this equipment consume all the bandwidth, while we can have other 20 devices and that they hardly spend connection.
An example of the first thing we mention is if we are downloading and uploading large files to the cloud from a computer, broadcasting 4K video and using a program that connects remotely to a server to exchange information.
Instead, we can have a large number of IoT devices at home and barely exchange data on the network. In this case, we would hardly consume resources and we would not need to have a too high rate to be able to navigate normally.
