WhatsApp is the messaging app with the most users, with two billion accounts in the world.
Meta’s platform already delivers one hundred billion messages a day.
There are only 25 countries in the world where WhatsApp is not the most used messaging app.
Updates on the platforms are essential for their operation. That is why WhatsApp announced that as of May 31, some mobile devices will be left without working.
According to data from Meta, the parent company of the instant messaging platform, WhatsApp registers more than two million users worldwide. In Mexico, it is the digital application most used by Internet users, with 78 million users, according to figures from the MX Internet Association. Therefore, it is implied that nine out of ten people who use the Internet also have WhatsApp.
Likewise, the same source highlights that the top five digital applications with the most users in Mexico are completed by Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
These are cell phones
After being one of the most used instant messaging platforms in the world, users must update the app regularly due to the constant news that the app is announcing daily.
In this sense, Meta announced that as of May 31, 2023, the application will stop working on several cell phones that do not meet the minimum compatibility requirements, due to the age of the cell phone.
And it is that, according to the platform, the devices and the software change frequently, so that they periodically review the operating systems that they support and make the corresponding updates.
So the app can no longer load on operating systems that no longer support platform updates.
The technology company indicates that before stopping supporting the operating system, the user will receive a notification on WhatsApp and will be reminded several times to update it.
“In order to keep up with the latest technological advances, we regularly stop supporting outdated operating systems to dedicate our resources to supporting the latest ones”, so, “we will update this page regularly to make sure that the systems latest operatives that we support appear here,” WhatsApp says in a statement.
In this sense, the cell phones that could be affected on May 31 are: Samsung Galaxy Core, Samsung Galaxy Trend Lite, Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, Samsung Galaxy S3 mini, Samsung Galaxy Trend II, Samsung Galaxy X cover 2, LG Optimus L3 II Dual, LG Optimus L5 II, LG Optimus F5, LG Optimus L3 II, LG Optimus L7II, LG Optimus L5 Dual, LG Optimus L7 Dual, LG Optimus F3, LG Optimus F3Q, LG Optimus L2 II, LG Optimus L4 II, LG Optimus F6, LG Enact, LG Lucid 2, LG Optimus F7, Huawei Ascend Mate, Huawei Ascend G740, Huawei Ascend D2, Sony Xperia M, Lenovo A820, ZTE V956 – UMI X2, ZTE Grand S Flex, ZTE Grand Memo, Faea F1THL W8, Wiko Cink Five, Winko Darknight, Archos 53 Platinum, iPhone 6S and iPhone SE.
