The sixth generation of the Opel Astra has already debuted. The compact of the lightning brand has been completely renewed, both inside and out. A radical change that introduces design, more modern and avant-garde on all four sides, and an authentic arsenal of technology are its keys. The first units will arrive in 2022.
The newOpel Astra 2022 it is already a reality. Just four months after seeing the first spy photos of the lightning brand compact, the production model has been unveiled. The German firm meets the deadlines by presenting a completely new model loaded with advanced technologies.
The compact is one of the most important parts in the Opel range, a model that was weighed down by the years too much and was crying out for a new generation. The sixth Astra now shares the Stellantis EMP2 modular platform, and that also supports direct rivals in its category such as the Peugeot 308. The German’s design is more sporty and modern, practically keeping the proportions of the outgoing model, with measurements that you can see in the following table.
Bigger, sportier and more modern the 2022 Opel Astra
Compared to its predecessor it is 4 millimeters longer, with an extra 13 millimeters on the wheelbase, which ensures greater interior space, and especially for the legs of the rear passengers. The trunk volume reaches up to 422 liters with the rear seatbacks extended, and with a very low load threshold that facilitates access to it.
Measurements of the new Opel Astra 2022 officially confirmed
Aesthetically, the Astra adopts the new features released in the Mokka. The «Vizor» ensemble takes over, once again, the front, melting in one piece the ragged and thin headlights, which can count on the sophisticated “Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Light” lighting technology. Each lighthouse consists of 84 diodes that are selectively turned on and off by varying the beam range and direction.
The Astra also has a sportier silhouette reminiscent of the same model from the third generation, dispensing with the third fixed window that until now occupied the rear pillar. A longer side and a lower roof line for a sportier shape. At the rear, the slim fittings also occupy part of the hatchback, with the new brand emblem and the model name in the center.
The new Opel Astra throws the house out the window in technology and equipment
The entire dashboard is completely digital, with a large instrument screen, and a touch screen occupying part of the center console. Both have 10 inches, and reproduce the same “Pure Panel” design implanted with the Mokka. The German firm has equipped them with a special glass that avoids reflections for a better vision of the driver. The infotainment system is operated with voice commands, and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
This is the great novelty of an interior in which customers also have a new generation of AGR-certified front seats. A feature that does not prevent you from choosing between “Comfort” or “Sport” seats, the latter more enveloping, and with the possibility of having electrical adjustments, heating, air conditioning and upholstered in leather and Napa. The interior designers of the brand have lowered the seating position, now 12 millimeters lower for a sportier ride.
The French platform that sustains the Astra 2022 allows it to offer a true range of more sophisticated equipment. Driving assistants that launch a new generation of cameras -front, rear and on each side-, ultrasonic sensors in front and behind, and five radar sensors, one in the front and in each corner.
The Opel Astra arrives in 2022 with seven engines
Together they form the «e-horizon Intelli-Drive» system, with functions as advanced as the speed regulation in curves or the possibility of semi-autonomous overtaking, and also for the following driving assistants that, depending on the finishes, can be fitted as standard or as an option:
- Adaptive cruise control with speed and safety distance regulation
- Adaptive cruise control with “Stop & Go” function (automatic only)
- Automatic emergency braking
- “Intelli-HuD” night vision front screen
- Long-range blind spot detection
- Intelli-Vision 360º Camera
- Extended recognition of traffic signs
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
