The metaverse remains a concern for many companies. As more and more companies join this trend, today it has been revealed that this market will have two new competitors: LEGO and EpicGames. Through a statement, these two companies are committed to creating a safe metaverse for children.
According to what was mentioned by the companies, this new relationship between LEGO and Epic Games will not only give them the opportunity to enter the metaverse, but also plan to do so with a focus on creating a safe space for children. This was what was mentioned about it:
“The LEGO Group and Epic Games announced today that they are entering into a long-term partnership to shape the future of the metaverse to be safe and fun for kids and families. The two companies will team up to create an immersive, creatively inspiring and engaging digital experience for children of all ages to enjoy together.
The family digital experience will give kids access to tools that empower them to become confident creators and provide amazing play opportunities in a safe and positive space.
The LEGO Group and Epic Games have agreed on three principles that will ensure that the digital spaces they develop provide engaging and safe play opportunities:
-Protect children’s right to play by making safety and well-being a priority.
-Protect children’s privacy by putting their best interests first.
-Empower children and adults with tools that give them control over their digital experience.”
Although the details are still a mystery, this sounds very similar to Roblox, which is already considered a metaverse for children by many people. However, considering the accusations of exploitation of minors that have emerged against this platform in recent years, it seems that LEGO and Epic Games have an arduous task in front of them to prevent this type of behavior from being replicated in their proposal.
With thisthe description offered sounds like an online LEGO game is surely in development, which would give children the tools to create their own space in this metaverse. There are still details that need to be clarified, but it is good to see that these companies are focused on the role that minors will have in the metaverse.

Editor’s note:
Although the idea of procuring children in the metaverse sounds like a good thing, it raises a number of questions that have not been clarified. For starters, what kind of platforms will give you access to minors, and how exactly will Roblox problems be prevented from recurring. There is still much that remains in doubt, and I do not see a concrete future for these plans.
