Consumer finds cockroach in her Starbucks coffee
Starbucks is one of the largest food chains in the world., and probably the largest coffee shop of all. It is therefore not surprising that throughout the world it has more than 34 thousand establishments worldwideoperating in more than 80 countries around the world through its own operating branches (51 percent) and operating licenses (49 percent). Therefore, each quarter generates income higher than the 6 billion dollars.
Most of its stores are distributed in local United States, and include locations in Canada, Japan, South Korea and, especially, China. According to data from Statista, in 2021, this country had 5,358 branchesan impressive amount if we take into account that in 2009 it had only 209 establishments.
However, this figure is worrying if we take into consideration one of the most recent cases of one of the establishments in Shenzhen, a city in the south, located in the Asian country. According to media report South China Morning Posta consumer found a cockroach “swimming” in his coffee in your cafe. Realizing this, she recorded a video and shared it on her social networks, a fact that quickly went viral and alerted both clients and the branch.
This is the shared video by the user on the Weibo social network, via the YouTube channel of the South China Morning Post:
“The cockroach is very big”the client pointed out, “I’m sure the barista must have seen it when he made my drink. The coffee cream was whipped with a blender, but there is no cream in the cockroach. Besides, she’s still alive… I don’t think that’s possible.”
Concerned about the situation, she reported what had happened, to which the chain responded, seeking to repay her in some way, to which the woman did not accept. This resulted in the initiation of an investigation, to which the store chain responded with a statement on social media:
“We carefully reviewed the video about the complaint involving the brand. We found that our staff closely followed standard operating procedures and uses leak-proof, disposable beverage containers.”
They also commented that after a review by a pest control company, no problems were detected. Therefore, they invited the consumer to accept compensation for the damages.
However, this fact has sparked controversy, since it is not the first time that Starbucks chains, in the Asian countryThey have problems like this. Recall that in 2019, a cockroach infestation caused the closure of a branch in Shanghai. In the images, cockroaches were seen walking among the foodFor this reason, the alarms in the Asian giant are turned on, since the fact that it was a case among 5 thousand stores, far from controlling the situation, invites us to think that it could probably happen in many more branches.
