Airbus data regarding the air market are very encouraging. The company estimates that some 2,460 new aircraft are in demand from Latin America and the Caribbean thanks to the growth of the middle class in the region.
In Mexico, specifically, Airbus says that the recovery of air traffic last year was focused on the fact that the country did not implement restrictions on the arrival of foreigners or closed traffic on the border with the US.
According to Airbus, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina will see the highest relative growth in the region, with flights per person doubling: from 0.5 to 1 flight per capita between now and 2040.
The data was published by Airbus as part of the presentation of the World Market Forecast 2022 report.
According to research by the French aircraft manufacturer, the region made up of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean will demand 2,460 aircraft between 2021 and 2040, of which 2,170 will be small; another 190 medium-sized and another 100 large.
The causes of the growth of the sector are based on optimistic forecasts regarding the progress of the middle class.
According to Arturo Barreira, president of Airbus for Latin America, the growth of the middle class will boost air travel because it is estimated that 60 percent of the Latin American population will have that income profile in 2040.
Colombia and Chile, in turn, will have a greater increase in flights per inhabitant since the governments of those countries have implemented incentives for the aviation industry in recent years.
More employment in Mexican airlines, says Airbus
Employment data is also encouraging.
Airbus believes that 33,000 pilots and 43,000 technicians will be needed in the region by 2040.
Barreira said that in Mexico and Colombia the movement of planes returned “almost” to pre-pandemic levels and recalled the news that was known in February: the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) said that Mexico was established, in an unprecedented way, as the third most visited nation in the world in 2021.
Some 24.2 million international tourists arrived in the country in 2020, only below France and Italy.
Airbus said that in 2021 they delivered and received orders for 92 aircraft for airlines such as Volaris, Jet Smart and LATAM and that they provided services to LATAM and Avianca to improve their fleets.
In relation to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Airbus director said that they are following up on the issue because they have titanium suppliers in Vladimir Putin’s country. “We are going to follow the sanctions recommendations of our home countries,” he explained.
