Fabio Quartararo is the new MotoGP champion. The French rider is already part of the history of the premier class of the Motorcycle World Championship and not only because of the fact that he is the first rider of his nationality to win the championship. In fact, the ‘Diablo’ has become the seventh Yamaha rider to win the title of the queen class, reclaiming the scepter for Iwata’s signature six years later. What’s more, Fabio has also broken the success streak of Spanish motorcycling, even having grown up sportingly in Spain, since since 2011 there was not a MotoGP champion who was not Spanish.
Still assimilating this success Fabio Quartararo He said: «I have cried a lot, I have also screamed and I feel great. After crossing the finish line, many memories have come to me, bad moments that I have gone through. Being proclaimed MotoGP champion is something that I did not expect when a few years ago I was suffering. Before starting the race I was with Tom and I was feeling nervous, but he would tell me to think about the last three bad races of last year. Everything that has happened in the last year has helped me a lot to be champion today. The key has been perseverance, we have finished all the races and scored in all of them. In 2021 I have been constant as in 2019, but also faster».
Along these lines, the ‘Devil’ has added: «Last year I already had a factory motorcycle, but because of COVID it was but that of 2019. This year I have felt better with the front end and that has allowed me to win. The sensations have been much better. It is true that there are still things to improve, because we lack power, but I feel connected to the bike and I am enjoying it a lot. I am a champion with Yamaha and we can be happy. I feel very good on the bike, although it is difficult for me to overtake. With a little more power we could have the best bike, without a doubt».
