A week later we have the same result. Pecco Bagnaia has achieved his second consecutive pole after being the fastest rider in Q2 of the San Marino GP. And as he did at MotorLand Aragón seven days ago, the young Italian rider has overtaken Jack Miller and Fabio Quartararo to shape a first row of grill identical to the one in Alcañiz. However, the development of Q2 has been very different and has been marked by the falls of Marc Márquez and Aleix Espargaró to Pecco’s wheel, but also from the MotoGP leader despite finishing third.
The Q1 of the San Marino GP and the Riviera di Rimini has been very close, although two drivers have shone above the rest. Enea Bastianini closed the session with the best time after signing a lap of 1: 31.876. A tenth and a half slower was Marc Márquez, although the Repsol Honda rider had a good enough lap to overtake the Japanese Takaaki Nakagami. Michel Pirro was fourth in his wild card role, while Luca Marini finished fifth, thus completing the fifth row on the grid. On his return to MotoGP, Italian Andrea Dovizioso finished last 1.2 seconds behind the leader.
As if it were a carbon copy of the qualifying session lived a week ago in Alcañiz, Q2 was completed with the same result as in MotorLand. Italian Pecco Bagnaia got his second pole followed. And he did it at a record pace, with a lap of 1: 31.065 that no one was able to match. He was two tenths Jack Miller, while Fabio Quartararo was three tenths slower than the poleman. With everything, the MotoGP leader ended the session with a crash, as did Marc Márquez and Aleix Espargaró. The two mishaps of the Spanish pilots came to the wheel of the poleman.
With Bagnaia, Miller and Quartararo subscribed to the first row, even with a fall for the Yamaha rider, Jorge Martín had to settle for the fourth position, followed of course by Johann Zarco. In this way, four of the top five positions were occupied by Ducati riders, drawing an unbeatable situation for the Italian firm at Misano. Pol Espargaró finished sixth, thus completing the second row of the grid. Marc Márquez will lead the third row after his fall, sharing space with Aleix Espargaró and Álex Rins. The fourth will be for Maverick Viñales with the second Aprilia, Joan Mir and Enea Bastianini.
