Like every month, new video games are added to the Xbox Game Pass catalog, while others follow the opposite path and leave the service until further notice. It is the case of last stop, an interesting indie title from the London studio Variable State, which leaves on June 30. That is why today we give you 5 reasons to play Last Stop before it leaves Xbox Game Pass next week. A game that came to the Microsoft video game platform at launch and will now abandon it almost a year later, giving way to other works such as Far Cry 5 or Naraka: Bladepoint, two of the additions in the coming days.
short and direct
More and more big productions immerse us in proposals lasting tens or even hundreds of hours. That’s fine, of course, but every now and then a smaller, more easily playable title comes in handy. This is the case of Last Stop, which lasts about five or six hours and has a very direct approach, focused on the narrative and with very interesting script surprises.
television format
Since the release of its debut title, Virginia, Variable State has recognized the inspiration that a cult series like Twin Peaks has had on its work. Although Last Stop is not as Twin Peaks as Virginia was, this game does have a very television format, with a narrative structure divided into episodes, each one of them starring different characters whose paths will end up crossing.
Decisions
The narrative cut of Last Stop does not leave the player as a mere spectator. We have free choice of dialogues and multiple important decisions that will vary the future of the story, its characters and its final destination. Choose carefully if you do not want to regret dire and unexpected consequences.
Science fiction
There aren’t that many science fiction-themed games on the market today, much less from a perspective like the one chosen by Last Stop. The title of Variable State puts us in the shoes of a single father who mysteriously changes his body with an annoying neighbor, in that of a young teenager curious about the presence of a stranger in her neighborhood and that of a ruthless woman who works in a secret agency.
Last Stop Analysis
Your narrative section
It may not be the most playable title you’re going to try this year, but there are many reasons to give Last Stop a chance in terms of narrative. It’s beautifully directed, has very interesting and well-written characters (particular emphasis on Molly, our single dad’s witty daughter), and knows how to build tension with the situations it depicts.
