Many do not take it into consideration but 2022 was the year of death for many platforms, services and devices in the technology industry.
Google Stadia, Internet Explorer, the iPod and the pitiful communication gadgets created by Facebook have been paraded down death row in recent months.
Here we briefly recount our top 5 deaths and the reasons why their elimination is relevant.
iPod
In May of this year, the boys from Cupertino announced their decision to stop manufacturing their classic iPod music player. With this, an era died when MP3 and similar digital formats were the axis of our musical consumption.
This die did sting in particular for music lovers who lived through that golden age a couple of decades ago.
Google Stadia
When the company announced Google Stadia, it seemed that they were going to revolutionize the video game industry under a simple to extreme idea: use a browser to play titles of all kinds through the power of the cloud.
If anyone could make that work due to its unlimited budget, it was Google, but unfortunately the platform was stillborn and the service will stop working this January 2023.
BlackBerry OS
There was a time when BlackBerry was the absolute ruler of the mobile phone market. Until Android came along with iOS to show that there was a world of more robust possibilities out there.
The condemning factor for this company was always its mobile operating system and this 2022 began with the formal announcement of its death and the termination of its functions.
At a point where even BlackBerrys no longer ran that program and preferred to use Android.
Facebook Portal / Meta Portal
The affair was doomed from the start. In the middle of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, where it was proven that Mark Zuckerberg’s company really had little interest in protecting the privacy of its users, they had the idea of launching a series of smart speakers and screens with video cameras.
In 2022, the closure of the department in charge of developing these devices was announced.
internet explorer
For many Internet Explorer was the first browser with which they discovered the power of the internet. In that sense, he has a relative affection.
But to be honest it was an unstable, slow program that consumed too many system resources and threw multiple display and loading errors.
He had to die and his final moment of death was in this year 2022.
