Like mom and dad, to understand a child’s crying you don’t need so many scientific explanations.
5 PHRASES YOU SHOULD NOT SAY TO YOUR CHILD
Just watch the moment your child cries. Just think about its effects. To understand a child’s crying is to discover the emotions that provoke it and to recognize those feelings. Our mission is to validate it as something natural that deserves respect and attention.
1. «Don’t be afraid»
Although your main goal is precisely that, that your child stops being afraid, he will not stop feeling insecure no matter how much you repeat it to him over and over again (more and more angry, probably).
2. “Your fear is nonsense”
It is possible that, in fact, the reason why your little one is afraid is something very simple, (a jacket on the chair that has taken a strange shape or the terrifying noise your neighbor makes of up when walking).
3. “Is that really scary? You are a coward? Gives you no shame?”
Never ridicule your child’s fears or laugh at them because they will feel even more insecure.
4. “You close your eyes and go back to sleep” (and you leave your room)
It is true that, sometimes, children must be left to face their fears alone, but especially at first, they need little your help, love and patience.
5. «If you continue like this, I will get angry»
Threats are not the best way to instill courage in your child, quite the contrary.
These phrases convey that fear is a negative emotion to be ashamed of or, worse, making you ashamed of it.
