The Callisto Protocol has been one of the most popular games on the Internet in recent days. After the issue dedicated by Game Informer in its magazine for the month of June, the news about the title has only happened in recent days, culminating in the fantastic gameplay that we were able to see last night at the Summer Game Fest 2022 gala.
Although the game already pointed ways from the moment it was presented, after the first trailer and last night’s video, we can say without fear of being wrong with the title developed by Striking Distance Studios drinks a lot from the Dead Space franchise, a saga that was also developed by those responsible for the study. And taking a closer look at both videos, We have looked at 5 nods to Dead Space present in The Callisto Protocol.
The Callisto Protocol: 5 nods to Dead Space
1. The setting
The Callisto Protocol will be set on a lunar station, which a priori will offer a greater variety of areas than those seen in the first installment of the Dead Space franchise. Nevertheless, everything seen in the title strongly reminds us of the game developed by Visceral Games. The look of the interiors, the way doors open and close, and even some visual effects ooze Dead Space inspiration on all fours.
2. The stomp
One of the most characteristic movements of Isaac Clarke was the stomp that we could do to the enemies once knocked down, in order to try to save ammunition with our plasma pistol and, incidentally, see if we could get some ammunition or some other type of loot. As we could see in last night’s gameplay, this iconic movement is present again in The Callisto Protocolwith an animation and sound effect similar to those seen in Dead Space.
3. The breath
Although we couldn’t see (or rather hear) it in yesterday’s gameplay, the gameplay trailer that appeared at State of Play showed us a moment where Jacob is outside the moon station, having to breathe hard. accelerated way, moment in which we hear that sound that we have heard so many times from Isaac Clarke. This was, without a doubt, one of the 5 most recognizable nods to Dead Space that we could see last week.
The Callisto Protocol will have dubbing into Spanish
4. Enemies and dismemberments
The enemies are another of those elements in which Dead Space has deeply inspired The Callisto Protocol. Although in the Striking Distance Studios title it seems that more humanoid enemies have been chosen, they are also present some that greatly recall what was seen in Dead Space with the necromorphs.
And if this reminds us of the game, it is not for less what has been seen with the dismemberment of these enemies. Although we don’t have a plasma cutter to use here, Jacob’s weapon seems to be able to cut the limbs of the enemies if we shoot in the right places, something that we could also do in the Visceral Games title.
5. The health bar
The last of the 5 nods to Dead Space that we are talking about is related to the health bar. Although it is true that in the previous franchise the life bar was placed vertically along the protagonist’s column, the position chosen by The Callisto Protocol seems like another clear nod to that clean interface that we found in the first work of the members of Strking Distance Studios. As we say, now it is placed horizontally, but cast the first stone who did not think of Dead Space when seeing this element.
And those have been some of The Callisto Protocol’s nods to Dead Space. And you, have you seen any more? If so, leave us your opinion in the comments.
