The brain, like any other organ, loses its faculties with age, and that affects memory. But it can be prevented.
It is normal to forget from time to time an appointment, a task that you had assigned, or the name of an acquaintance. But if these episodes are repeated often, it is time to strengthen memory.
Like any other organ, the brain can be trained to improve its performance, and reduce lyou failures. At the same time you can get stronger and healthier with certain habits and foods.
Nutritionist Dr. Josh Ax explains on his blog 5 homemade tricks to improve memory effortlessly.
Learn new things
We have talked about training the brain, and that is achieved learning new things. Thus new neural connections are generated. It’s what the doctors call neuroplasticity.
You have to get out of your comfort zone and try to learn things that you are not even good at. You can try learning to play a musical instrument, a programming language, or play chess.
They don’t have to be things brainy: for example you can sign up for dance classes, play golf, or build a table. Any craft will do.
Follow an anti-inflammatory diet
There are foods that are not good for the brain, because they have oxidative components, which affect neurons.
You have to take foods high in antioxidants, protein, and healthy fats. For instance:
- Fruits and vegetables, especially citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables, onion, etc.
- Healthy fats like olive oil, nuts, egg yolks
- Cold-water fish, such as tuna, salmon, or sardines
- Coffee, green tea and wine in moderation
do exercise
The exercise increases oxygen in the brain, reduces stress and fatigue, and generates endorphins that fight depression.
All of this is proven to benefit memory.
Sleep enough
Must sleep between 7 and 9 hours for the brain to rest properly, and regain energy.
If you have studied or learned new information, a nap also comes in handy …
Avoid loneliness
Having fun with other people is essential to improve mood and generate oxytocin, a hormone of happiness that benefits the brain.
If you live alone you can always meet with family or friends, or join an NGO, dance classes, gymnastics, etc., to socialize.
They are simple methods to follow, and it is scientifically proven that they are a memory aid.
