This week Nintendo added new games to the catalog of classic titles for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, with one for the NES and one for the SNES. The NES game that made it to the service is Daiva Story 6 Imperial of Nirsartia, while the SNES games are Kirby’s Avalanche and Fighter’s History.
Nintendo Switch players subscribed to NSO on its basic plan can now play these three games on NES and SNES emulators, one of which is available outside of Japan for the first time ever, plus one that hasn’t had a launch in the land of the rising sun.

Kirby’s Avalanche is the European version of Super Puyo Puyo, which came out on the Super Famicom in Japan. At that time the developers of Compile believed that anime characters were not going to be to the taste of Western audiences, so they decided to replace the Puyo Puyo characters with Kirby ones.
Kirby’s Avalanche never saw a release in Japan, but Nintendo Switch Online players in that country received another game on their service with Kirby’s Super Star Stacker, a remake of the Game Boy game that never made it to the west.
Fighter’s History is a one-on-one fighting game very similar to Street Fighter II, to the point that Capcom even sued the Data East developers for plagiarism. However, the judge ruled that Fighter History was different enough from Street Fighter II.
Finally, Daiva Story 6: Imperial of Nisartia is an NES game that had only been released in Japan before, so the arrival on Nintendo Switch Online is the first time it has been available in the rest of the world.
