Normally, these discomforts disappear when the baby’s digestive system begins to mature.
During colic, the little one experiences a sharp pain in the belly that causes him to cry uncontrollably, prevents him from relaxing and alters his rhythm of food and sleep. To relieve them, we teach you a massage technique that will lessen your pain and help you calm down in those bad times.
These exercises must be practiced before you eat. If the little one has already done it, you have to wait for two hours to pass. In case he has reflux, we can only do them before feeding him.
Stimulation of the digestive system
APPROXIMATE TIME: five minutes.
While the baby is sucking on the pacifier or part of the mommy or daddy’s finger:
1. Place one hand under the baby’s head, like a pillow, and hold the pacifier with the other.
2. Pull lightly on the pacifier as if you want to remove it from the baby’s mouth. The movement will make the little one suck harder.
3. Return to the starting position and repeat the operation.
Stimulation of the stomach
APPROXIMATE TIME: five minutes.
While the baby is sucking on the pacifier or part of the mommy or daddy’s finger:
1. Place one hand in the pit of your stomach and make gentle circular movements in a clockwise direction, applying a little pressure towards the baby’s feet.
2. At the same time, hold the pacifier with your other hand and lift it up a little so that the baby sucks more strongly.
Stimulation of natural stomach movements.
APPROXIMATE TIME: five to seven minutes.
Stand on the baby’s right side.
1. Place the left hand in the mouth of the child’s stomach and make a circular movement clockwise, applying slight pressure towards the baby’s feet.
2. Meanwhile, slide your other hand, from right to left, across your abdomen (remember that the baby’s abdomen starts in the pit of the stomach and ends in the pelvis).
These are three very simple maneuvers to perform with the baby lying on their back. You can do them at home and you don’t need previous knowledge, just practice a little to learn the mechanics. Your baby will not only be delighted to receive the caresses of mom, but you will also help to alleviate the symptoms of colic.
